In 2019 I had genetic testing due to family history of breast cancer, and it was discovered that I carried the defective PALB2 gene. It was recommended that I attend a Restore Show and Tell event.  So I went along to the final 'in person' event before the country went into lockdown during Covid. My decision was made whilst I sat listening to the inspiring stories told by the models that day. I had a preventative bilateral mastectomy with immediate DIEP reconstruction in February 2021.

Another decision was also made that day; I wanted to be part of the amazing group of people who make up Restore.  The support, patience and generosity of the group was invaluable during my decision making, surgery and subsequent recovery.  I became a model at Show and Tell events at QVH. In 2024 a new group was established in Guildford and I took over as the lead later that year. In 2025 I was asked if I would become a trustee of Restore and I didn't hesitate in saying yes because of the support and love I was shown during my journey.  I have made friends for life and if I can support other people in the same way I was supported, I will be very happy.
